energy balls

Looking for a quick snack to whip up for yourself and your family? These Energy Balls are easy to make and extremely versatile. Add in whatever you like and omit what you don’t!

On any given day, we’ve got a bowl full of these in our refrigerator just waiting to be gobbled up. Which only takes a few days around here. 😅 My kids and husband love them and eat them by the literal handful. No exaggeration!

Typically I put mini chocolate chips in our energy balls, but they are just as good without them if that’s not your thing. On occasion I make them with shredded coconut and wow! They are delicious! Some ingredients that I NEVER leave out are honey, vanilla extract and you guessed it, peanut butter.

As well as chia seeds, ground flax seed meal and powdered superfood blend, which is a plant based protein powder. I use Better Body Foods organic superfood blend. There are a couple of different varieties and I use and like them all!

Furthermore, the Superfood Blends are great for baking, mixing into smoothies, adding into homemade granola bars (like the recipe I have here), or mixing into oatmeal and things of that nature. Additionally, they have a very mild flavor all the while packing a big punch of nutrition. Plant based nutrition! How cool is that?!

I typically buy it from Walmart because they have the best price in my area. They also carry many other varieties of Better Body Foods products which I highly recommend!

I love to add Better Body Foods Superfood Blend to foods that I know my picky eating kiddos already like. It’s so simple! It provides them with a little extra boost of antioxidants, plant proteins and vitamins that are so essential for their continuously growing brains and bodies. And the best part? There’s 0 grams of sugar, no artificial flavors, sweeteners or colors AND it’s dairy and soy free. Seriously, I don’t think it gets any better than that!

Alternative additions in Energy Balls

I’ve been making these Energy balls for years and I like to switch up the ingredients from time to time in order see what my kiddo’s are willing to try! As well as to find different combinations that taste good. And there are a lot!

Some alternative additions that we’ve tried so far and liked are shredded coconut, dried cranberries, white chocolate chips, chopped walnuts or pecans and almond butter in place of the peanut butter. YUM!

Another great addition is Brewers Yeast. Breastfeeding mama’s, you know what I’m talking about! You can boost that milk supply while snacking and not feel bad about it!

However, the recipe that I share below is hands down, our all time favorite. It’s extremely simple, easy and so fast to throw it all together. But I can assure you that simple doesn’t mean disappointing!

And never-mind how easy these suckers are to grab when you’re in a rush, or just want an easy pre-made and no fuss snack. I keep a container of these in our refrigerator so everyone can just grab some when they please and trust me, THEY DO! These Energy Balls barely last 3 days in our house. They’re that good!

5. Store in the refrigerator in an air tight container for up to 1 week. If they last that long!

Alternative storage options

You could also store these in the freezer for up to 2 months and just thaw as desired. However, If you choose this option, remember to let the Energy Balls freeze individually on a baking sheet lined with wax paper before putting them into a container where they will be touching one another. Otherwise, you’ll end up with a big old frozen clump!

If you prefer, this mixture could be pressed into a 9×9 baking dish and put into the fridge for an hour to set before cutting into rectangles, resembling granola bars.

Additionally, if you’re a breastfeeding mama and would like to boost your milk supply, you could add 1/4 cup of Brewers Yeast to this recipe and reap the glorious benefits!
